Hi guys

I had a very good weekend. It started off on Friday night at a local brewery with some live music and yummy beer.

On Saturday, I attended a writing masterclass by Forrest Wolverton called ‘Writing by Immersion.’ It was crazy interesting. He conveyed a lot of information in the four hours of the class, but the exercises were the part that really blew my mind. The gist for the one I got the most out of was that you put yourself in a semi-meditative state and then sit down inside one of your character’s bodies. You basically become them for the duration of the exercise. You see, touch, hear etc. everything that they do in whatever scene you are imagining them in. But you go a step beyond that and feel their emotions and hear their inner dialog as well. It was incredible. I couldn’t believe how much about my character I had been missing.

Saturday night was pretty chill. Not much went on. Just some reading, vegging.

Sunday morning, my little sister dragged me out of bed at 6am. I am a firm believer that Sunday’s are for sleeping in, but she bribed me with an adventure. We drove an hour and a half to Mirror Lake up in the Wasatch National Forest. It was a little chilly, only in the high 40s when we got there. Luckily, we are cool weather hikers. The sun was shining, and it was only a bit hazy from the wildfire smoke. It was beautiful, and y’all know how I feel about hiking. We hiked for a couple hours and then headed back down to Salt Lake. I slipped and fell once, which I am still feeling today. Which is what happens when you aren’t twenty years old anymore.

The rest of the day was lazy. I’d planned on doing laundry, but I put it off…again.

Laundry is by far my least favorite chore. I think it would help if I had a washer and dryer in my apartment, but I don’t. So, I have to haul it all the way across the complex. Half the machines are always broken. And sometimes it isn’t obvious until after you’ve already loaded it. Or when you come back, and your clothes are still wet after having tumbled in the dryer for fifty minutes. And it’s expensive. I use the one in the complex right now because you load money onto a card and use that rather than quarters, cause…you know…coin shortage. A crazy side effect of the pandemic that I don’t think anyone saw coming.

Anyway. Enough rambling for now. I hope everyone had a good weekend. If you get a chance, you should check out Forrest’s videos. Really interesting stuff.

Until next time.
