A Long Awaited Announcement
After a long… so very long… time since my last blog post, finally, finally I am thrilled to announce the release of my debut full length novel Forge and Vine.
The original short story came to me during the height of the Covid lockdown. Then it languished in a folder on my external hard drive until the end of 2022. After I published my novella Desert Home, I pulled it out thinking I could do a quick edit on it and put it out as a short story.
But that isn’t what happened.
When I read the manuscript after not having spent any time with Rowan and Aurick for over two years, I realized that there was so much more to their story. It didn’t feel right to not explore it.
And so began the almost four year odyssey that turned a 10K word short story into the 120K word novel it has become. There were many bumps along the way—in case no one has ever told you, writing a book is really fucking hard. There was a steep learning curve and a lot of moments when I got very frustrated and almost quit. But I’m really glad I didn’t.
This isn’t the first novel I’ve written but it is the first one I’ve finished and been happy with. And it was so worth the literal thousands of hours of work. I learned so much. And contrary to what a lot of people selling courses will try to tell you, there is no easy way to learn to write. You just have to put the time in and go through the highs and lows. The frustrations and happy dances. And somewhere along the way you get better.
